Kenya-delegationDelegates from the Healthcare Sector and County Governments had a lot of lessons and goodies to bring home from the just concluded Devolved Healthcare Capacity Development & Bench-marking Workshop organised by Equip Africa Institute in collaboration with Healthcare Denmark from September 26th-30th, 2016 at Copenhagen - Denmark.

This workshop was necessitated by the massive success achieved in the Danish Healthcare system that has seen the system transformed into world-class status over a very short period.  Leading innovations and investment in the Danish Healthcare system have greatly changed the game achieving a near 100% satisfaction among its beneficiaries.

After an Introduction to the Danish healthcare system at Danish Regions in Copenhagen, the delegation visited Copenhagen Healthtech Cluster (CHC) for an afternoon focusing on healthcare innovation. On September 28, the program brought the delegation to Odense University Hospital (OUH) where they visited the Shared Emergency Department. The department, which is Denmark’s largest emergency department, is an innovative new take on an emergency department and integrates the functions of emergency room, trauma, diagnostics, on-call GPs, and all hours observation wards in one department. The visit to OUH also included a lecture on improving the quality of obstetric care in low income countries, and presentations on hospital management, quality management in hospitals, technology acquisition, and telemedicine by CEO of Odense University Hospital, Niels Nørgaard Pedersen, quality officers, and innovation consultants.

On September 29, the delegation was back in Copenhagen for a meeting with President of Global Medical Aid, Hans Frederik Dydensborg. Global Medical Aid is a Danish non-profit organization that collects usable medicine and medical equipment for donating to developing countries. Finally, the delegation met with Peter Julius, partner of Public Intelligence, to discuss current and emerging trends in healthcare technology.
